Helotes Lioness of Helotes Lions Club will sponsor the 18th annual Helotes Arts & Crafts Day 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 3. The event will be at Helotes Lions Club building, 1460 Bandera Road.

The Helotes Lioness have sponsored this arts and crafts day annually, with proceeds from craft table space donated for research in conquering blindness.

The Lions Pride Branch of Helotes seeks to accomplish research and cure for Age-related macular degeneration, affecting nearly 70,000 Americans yearly. It is the leading cause of blindness. The central loss of vision often makes it difficult to impossible, to perform detailed work such as reading. Donations also support research in retinitis pigmentosa. It ranks number one in the world as a genetic form of blindness, denying approximately 1.2 million people their sight.

Local artists and crafters will be selling very special items from handpainted glassware, Christmas decorations, porcelain, handmade baby items, jewelry, bird houses, signs, crocheted items, beaded jewelry, angels, gel and waxed candles, handmilled soaps, T-shirts and handbags starting at 10 a.m.

The Helotes Lions Club will be serving delicious German sausage plates beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Other day shopping venues include Old Town Helotes and the annual Casa Helotes Arts & Craft Show, 12070 Leslie Road, across from O’Connor High School, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
