Special to the Herald A weeklong series of free events for military veterans and their families in the San Antonio area will begin Monday to provide information and assistance on earned benefits, programs, employment and assistance in filing VA disability claims and other benefits. As part of the national “Heroes to Hometowns” program, The American Legion of Texas in cooperation with national American Legion resources, and local government agencies, will host the activities through Nov. 15. All area veterans, family members and interested individuals are invited to attend. A veterans’ town hall meeting begins the week at 5 p.m. Monday at American Legion Post 667, 540 Bowie Avenue in Universal City. Guest speakers will include representatives and service officers from The American Legion state and district offices, the national Heroes to Hometowns program coordinator, veterans’ employment service representatives and local community leaders. A forum for veterans will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital recreation room, at 7400 Merton Minter in San Antonio. Two more free veterans forums will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Brooke Army Medical Center fourth floor auditorium, 3851 Roger Brooke, and 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 15 at American Legion Post 579, 3002 Gunsmoke. |
