Suzanne Baker (right) of Cibolo Creek Alpacas is preaching to the choir as she explains the characterisitics of her alpaca fleece to an appropriate T-shirt-wearing knitting hobbyist from Dallas who came to the Kendall County Fairgrounds in Boerne this past weekend for the Kids & Ewe and Llamas Too showcase of fibers from animals including sheep, llamas and alpacas.
Donna Browne (right), of the Double D Alpaca Ranch in Sisterdale, says she has nine alpacas and describes them as sweet, gentle and good with children.
Baker blocks hats (left) from her alapaca fleece, which she describes as lighter and softer than wool.

Alpaca fleece, which is in its second year of participation in the showcase, grows 8 inches deep on this alpaca (right) from Eden Ranch in Canyon Lake. Photos by Lauri Gray Eaton
