Judson: Lots of work to do

Editor:

Have things been running as smoothly at the Judson School District without a superintendent as well as the school board president would have you believe? I don’t think so.

I would site the audit report of the Judson Transportation Department the board had conducted last summer, to identify how serious the problems identified by several department employees were. There were numerous areas identified as needing management attention including lack of a consistent preventative program and lack of a district policy regarding bus replacement. It also identified a problem in the purchase of diesel fuel for district vehicles. The report stated the current diesel fuel supplier had a minimum delivery charge for 8,000 gallons. Due to the tank capacity of 8,000 gallons, and the need to refill it before it goes dry, they are unable to accept a full load, which has the effect of raising fuel cost (paying for 8,000 gallons but receiving 6,800 gallons for example).

This report was given to the district in July; we are now in November — no one can tell me any serious progress has been made to correct this problem. I have asked the board president, other board members and senior administrators and no one seems to have any sense of urgency to correct this glaring problem.

I welcome Dr. Willis Ray Mackey to the district and would suggest he has his work cut out for him to get things going in the right direction.

Congress: Defend the Constitution

Editor:

Congress: Time to do your Constitutional duty. You have shirked your sworn oath to uphold this document far too long. Congressman Dennis Kucinich is introducing a bill to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney, which is a step long overdue. Also: no waterboarding; no dictatorship; no Mukasey.

Our nation is under dire constitutional crises. Are you going to continue to look the other way? Your present path makes you also guilty of criminal action. Shame on you!

I took my oath in the military in 1942. I swore to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. I did this for 31 years on active duty and still honor that oath. How about you?
