By Nancy Becker Special Contributor It looks like the holidays really are here. The Bulverde Senior Center celebrated the Thanksgiving holiday with a very special luncheon Monday with turkey, dressing and all the trimmings. Everyone really enjoyed the devotional music performed by Dave Christopher as he played his guitar and sang. Thank you, Dave. The food was outstanding, as always, and the atmosphere warm and inviting. We also welcomed the presence of many local dignitaries. We all have a lot to be thankful for, and our friendships and camaraderie at BSC can be included in our list. Many volunteered to get the building ready for the Christmas holidays on Wednesday. Inside and out, the center is sparkling with holiday cheer. Thanks to those who donated their time during this busy season to get us ready. The annual Bulverde Christmas lighting will be held this Friday. BSC will hold open house beginning at 5:30 p.m. and a performance by our talented Encore members will start at 6 p.m., so be sure to plan to visit BSC on Friday. Are you looking for that perfect gift to give someone on your Christmas list? Our gift shop is filled with holiday decorating and gift items. It is open daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. And the annual Christmas Bazaar will be held Dec. 8. There will be a rummage sale as well as one-of-a-kind items from our vendors, including jewelry, gifts, crafts, ceramics, decorative clothing, handmade bird houses, flower arrangements, plants and more. Snacks, hot dogs, Frito pie and soda will be available for purchase and special baked treats will be sold. If you would like to skip the holiday baking yourself, fill your freezer with these tasty cakes, pies, cookies and candies and you’ll be ready for the holidays. The bazaar is always a lot of fun, and the building is filled with great ideas for your holiday shopping. One Christmas extra available at BSC is the beautiful handmade Christmas tree in a sealed glass dome, which some lucky person will win to add to their holiday cheer. Purchase your raffle tickets now. Thanks to Jeni Weeks for making this and donating it to BSC. Let’s also remember others this holiday season. BSC has a box available for Operation Toy Drive, sponsored by the Lions Club. Drop your unwrapped gifts at the center. They will be distributed through the Community Service Center to deserving families. We are also collecting pull tabs which will go to the Ronald McDonald house to the benefit of the young children and families there. Through the services of Alamo Area Agency on Aging (AACOG), BSC is offering an opportunity for all Medicare eligible persons to find out more about the available Part D prescription drug plan options. Make an appointment for the enrollment check up on Dec. 11 between 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. You will have a chance to ask questions, compare plans and switch plans before the Dec. 31 cut-off date if you decide to do this. The center will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, and the office will be closed on Friday until the Open House at 5:30 p.m. I hope your Thanksgiving holiday brings you much joy and the opportunity to be with friends and loved family members. Hope to see you at BSC soon!
