By Sarah Snyder Staff Writer Conditions on Hausman Road are a nightmare if you ask neighbors who live and drive on its stretch between Loop 1604 and Interstate 10. But don’t expect anything to change soon. No road improvements on the Hausman Road section inside 1604 (San Antonio’s jurisdiction) are planned at this time, said Monica Ramos, spokeswoman for the city’s Public Works Department. She added, however, that further development would probably mean more improvements to handle the projected new commuters. “As new development moves into the area, developers are usually required to provide for additional capacity and improvements,” Ramos said. Brandeis High School is slated to open off of Hausman this year. John Igo Library will open next month. Residents, such as Richard Gray of the Hunters Chase subdivision, wish the city would look into more pro-active solutions, especially, he says, with the extension of Kyle Seale Parkway. “This road (Hausman) can no longer handle the large volume of traffic, especially during the morning and evening rush hours,” he said. Gray describes a road “loaded with potholes, bumps, dips, ruts. It has no shoulders, there is no centerline and it’s basically become a dangerous place to drive.” VIA Metropolitan Transit does not have any immediate plans to add bus service on or near Hausman Road, said spokesman Stephen “Andy” Scheidt. “Currently only small portions of two routes (603 and 605) travel down Hausman Road, and there are no plans to alter this service,” he said. Residents may address pothole and other maintenance issue by dialing 311, Ramos said. District 8 Councilwoman Diane Cibrian was not reached for comment as of press time. The city is plagued with street and drainage issues, spurring San Antonio voters to pass a $550 million bond referendum dedicated to infrastructure last May. More than 150 projects are planned citywide, although none of them are specifically for Hausman Road. The city used input from more than 100 San Antonio residents to select the projects in most need of attention. A plan for Prue Road will extend the street to Hausman Road.
