“Awake” (**1/2) This oddball thriller has a highly original premise but an unsatisfying resolution. It's about a man undergoing heart surgery and realizing that the anesthesia wasn't strong enough to knock him out. He is aware of what's happening to him but has no control over it. The movie tries too hard to be "different" instead of emotionally involving. R "Romance and Cigarettes" (**1/2) This is a drama, comedy and musical rolled into one with a cast that deserves better. The basic plot features James Gandolfini as a tireless worker married to Susan Sarandon. He has a fling with Kate Winslet on the side, his wife catches him and everybody dances up a storm. The acting and dancing are good. The movie isn't. R
