SF ballet stars headline SA Met’s ‘Cinderella’ PDF Print E-mail

Molly Smolen and Tiit Helimets, principal dancers with the San Francisco Ballet, will dance the lead roles in the San Antonio Metropolitan Ballet’s production of “Cinder-ella” Saturday and Sunday at the Lila Cockrell Theatre.

Smolen, who will dance the role of Cinderella, and Heli-mets, who will dance the role of Prince Charming, have both been recognized internationally for their artistic excellence in dance. They will be joined by the 36 members of the San Antonio Metropolitan Ballet and 55 extras. This ballet interpretation of the classic fairytale, with music by Sergei Prokofiev, was originally performed in 1945 by the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow.

The Saturday, Dec. 8, performance is at 7 p.m., and the Sunday, Dec. 9, performance is at 3 p.m. Adult tickets range in price from $20 to $30, and tickets for children age 12 and under and seniors age 65 and older are $15. Discounts are available for students, military and groups of 10 or more. Tickets may be purchased via Ticketmaster or in person at the Alamodome.

The San Antonio Metro-politan Ballet, a Regional Dance America honor company, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that nurtures local dance talent and the community’s appreciation for this performing art.
