By Meredith Canales Contributing Writer The Grey Forest City Council voted to explore the ceding of the Scenic Loop Playground Club to the city, the latest chapter in the organizations’ efforts to maintain the grounds responsible for the birth of the city. “We had the workshop on this particular item, and we talked about three directions to go,” said Grey Forest Mayor Don Darst at a Nov. 27 City Council meeting. Three options were discussed at the November workshop: ceding the SLPC property to the city, leasing the SLPC property to the city or making the SLPC into the parks and recreation department of Grey Forest. SLPC President Lou Hoffman said he was attempting to keep the city in the loop when it came to meetings and newsletters. “One of my concerns was that I didn’t want to go forward with a membership drive that always starts in January while we have this limbo,” he said. “I called a special board meeting to address that.” He then read a statement from the board meeting, proposing to extend this year’s membership to March 31 and having every subsequent year begin April 1. “We’re not dissolving or eradicating the SLPC,” Hoffman said. “We are looking at it evolving.” Darst explained that the council needed simply to choose a direction to investigate at the current time. The city voted to explore option number one, with council member Jennifer Nottingham being the only opposing voice, citing concerns about dismissing the other two options too hastily.
