Courtesy Photo Ashley Thaxton of Leon Springs recently attended the National Youth Leadership Forum on Law in Washington D.C., a six-day program that introduces exceptional high-school juniors and seniors from across the nation to careers in the legal profession. Students in the program participated in a mock trial and a Supreme Court simulation. They also heard speakers including ABC News reporter Pierre Thomas, who covers the U.S. Justice Department; and visited American University Law School and the Supreme Court Chambers. Upon completion of the Forum on Law, Thaxton was chosen to serve as a delegate of the National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF) Leadership Council, as which she will act as a liaison between the Forum and her high school and community. A junior at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas, Thaxton is also a cheerleader, a student mentor, member of the yearbook staff and of the school’s chapter of the National Honor Society. Fewer than one percent of high-school juniors are invited to attend NYLF forums. Selection is based on academic record, demonstrated leadership, PSAT scores and an indication of interest in a particular career field. Founded in 1893, TMI is a private, co-educational, college-preparatory school for grades 6-12, with optional Junior ROTC and boarding programs. For information, visit www.tmi-sa.org or call 698-7171.
