Of nearly 100 teams participating, Panther cheerleaders achieved second place in their division at the American Cheerpower Regionals, held last Saturday in San Antonio’s Freeman Coliseum.

“This was a remarkable achievement, since the TMI team only began working together last May,” said Missy Curran, head cheerleading coach. Under her direction, the squad practiced every week through the summer and fall semester at TMI and at a private gym.

Boerne-area squad members include Kacey Joy, Sara Lopez and Meg Perez of Boerne; Alex Grizzle of Fair Oaks Ranch; and Monica Fernandez and Ashley Thaxton of Leon Springs. Other TMI cheerleaders are: Marina Lewis, Erica Moreno, Marybeth Murphy, Cinyere Okoro, Emily Parke, Emily Richardson, Cindy Roman and Paulina Roman.

The squad received a team trophy, individual medals and a plaque for new competitors.

In addition to cheering for TMI basketball, Panther cheerleaders also will participate in the Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 5 at the Alamodome, an event to be televised on NBC. Their upcoming competitions include Cheer USA on Jan. 26 and Cheers! on Feb. 9.

Founded in 1893, TMI is a private, co-educational, college-preparatory school for grades 6-12, with optional Junior ROTC and boarding programs. For information, visit www.tmi-sa.org or call 698-7171.
