One of the wonderful things about living in this country, particularly in Texas, is the uniqueness and diversity of cities and counties.

Each of the cities within Comal County, as well as the county itself, must cope with similar issues but also must manage their own individual issues. County commissioners are elected to represent the interests of county residents whereas city officials are elected to represent the interests of their constituents. Sometimes both city and county interests are like-minded and things works out to everyone’s benefit. Other times a city and county may have the same goal but there is a disagreement on how the goal should be achieved. It is important that municipalities work together for the benefit of all.

I have asked staff to compile statistics for two areas of the city to be submitted to TxDOT for their review and hopeful action. The speed limit on Highway 46 in front of H-E-B and the school is currently 45 mph which may be too high for that stretch of roadway. The second area that needs to be addressed is on Highway 46 by the cement plant. Twice the city has asked TxDOT to groove the roadway and lessen the speed limit. TxDOT recently did agree to a lower speed limit of 60 from 65 mph, but additional measures are needed. Next week a letter will again be submitted to TxDOT requesting that this portion of Highway 46 be grooved as well as the speed limit lowered in this area and in the H-E-B vicinity. If residents have other traffic or road concerns, please e-mail the city administrator as well as council and myself.

I would like to wish everyone a very blessed holiday season. Please remember all those who will not be home for the holidays.
