Who authorized payoff? Editor: I noted that the former Judson ISD superintendent, Dr. Ed Lyman, received a huge stipend for resigning his contracted position with Judson. I don’t recall the board voting to pass that one. It was apparent from the start that Lyman was out of his element when he was hired. He came from a 2,000 student district, having seven schools, to Judson, having 18,000 students and 22 schools. Talk about being a bit overwhelmed from the start. Luckily, he found a new position in a district, more to his abilities and experiences. The question still remains: who authorized the expenditure of more than $100,000 that was awarded to Lyman, for breaking his contact? I could find no mention of the approval on any board meeting agenda, posted on the Web. Shouldn’t we ask? Is it any wonder that the voters become a bit skeptical of the conduct of those elected to represent them? Was that move, in any way, beneficial to the students of the Judson ISD? Charles A.
