Special to the Herald

The steering committee for John Paul II Catholic High School recently received a $2,000 donation from Catho-lics at the Army Residence Community.

“We are very excited to get financial and spiritual support from the Catholics at the Army Residence Community,” said Craig Zgabay, committee chairman. According to Zgabay, John Paul II is the first high school the Archdiocese of San Antonio has built from the ground up. The grassroots organization is planning to develop a high school somewhere in the Metrocom area.

The steering committee consists of deacons, the superintendent of Catholic schools, parents, high school teachers and corporate professionals.

Catholic residents at the Army Residence Community near Windcrest established the ARC Catholic Charities 18 years ago. Archbishop Emeri-tus Patrick Flores allowed these Catholic residents to collect funds to provide Catholic religious services at the community.

The residents distribute excess funds to local Catholic entities and individuals have since disbursed contributions in excess of $233,000 not only to the parish.

Donations for John Paul II Catholic High School may be sent to the Catholic Schools office of the archdiocese, 2718 West Woodlawn Avenue, San Antonio, 78228.
