Special to the Bulverde News

The Wachovia Foundation has awarded a generous grant to the Friends of the Bulver-de/Spring Branch Library to support education in the local community. The grant assures that both Live Homework Help and access to the TexShare databases will be available to everyone in this area for another full year.

Live Homework Help offers one-on-one tutoring to any student who accesses the site through the library Web site. Tutors are available in English and Spanish for help with math, science, social studies or English from grades four through early college. Hours are from 3 to 10 p.m. everyday in English and 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday in Spanish.

The TexShare database provides access to authoritative resources for students writing research papers, teachers updating data, parents wanting the latest information, or anyone else wanting to be well-informed. This site is also accessed through the library web page. Call the library to obtain the password for remote access to TexShare.

The Bulverde/Spring Branch Library was initially able to offer these services because of its membership in the Alamo Area Library System (AALS). Recent reductions in state funding for AALS threatened the availability of these services. The Wachovia Foundation grant assures access to these programs for another full year.

The library is able to subscribe to two more outstanding education databases with the funding from the Wachovia Foundation. Library customers now have access to Opposing Viewpoints and Congressional Quarterly Weekly. Both databases are perfect for students seeking information on current events and controversial issues. Customers can access these new databases through the web page using the same Texshare password.

The library is located in the H-E-B shopping center at the intersection of Highways 46 and 281. For more information, call the library at 438-4864, or visit www.bsb.lib.tx. us.
