The Boerne High School women's basketball team was all alone atop the District 27-4A standings entering the week with a perfect 3-0 league record.

Boerne ran its district winning streak to three with wins last week at Fredericksburg and Memorial. The Lady Hounds faced another challenge Tuesday night when they tangled with Alamo Heights on the Lady Mules' home floor. Results of that contest came too late for this edition of the View.

Boerne plays host to Kennedy Friday night, with tipoff set for 8 p.m.

Fredericksburg has struggled this year, but was considered a dark horse for the district title entering league play. It took a while for Boerne to get untracked, but once they got rolling the Lady Hounds proved unstoppable.

"We outscored them 30-11 in the second and third quarters," Boerne Women's Basketball Coach Jonathan Tate said. "Our team defense was the key. Maggie Klein took their best player, Katrina Itz, out of the game. I just thought our defensive intensity set the tone."

Boerne led 33-20 at halftime and took a 43-24 lead into the fourth quarter before going on to win 55-38. Tate said point guards Kendall Siess and Hilary Lumpkins did a good job of breaking down the Billies' press. Forward Stephanie Dyal and post Morgan Riser dominated the boards and Camilla Nolen provided energy off the bench.

Forward Caroline Field led Boerne with 14 points.

"Caroline led the scoring but otherwise it was good, balanced scoring," Tate said.

Lumpkins joined Field in double figures with ten points and Dyal and Siess each scored eight. Kalie Hatch added six, Riser and Megan Burns each scored three and Nolen and Klein hit single free throws.

Boerne followed up the Jan. 8 victory at Fredericksburg with a 66-50 win Friday night at Memorial.

"We were a little slow starting out, especially on defense, but we played really well in the second quarter," Tate said.

Boerne built a 49-25 cushion at intermission and cruised the rest of the way. Field, who has been nursing an injured arm, once again led all scorers with 22 points.

"I don't really think the arm has healed up so much as Caroline has become more used to playing with it," Tate said.
