San Antonio's newest high school, Brandeis High School, is on schedule to open in summer 2008. Brandeis will relieve serious overcrowding at Clark High School and O'Connor High School, which currently have more than 3,200 students each.

Brandeis will open with about 2,000 freshmen, sophomores and juniors. Seniors will not be moved.

Students who are expected to attend the new high school voted recently on the mascot and logos. Brandeis Broncos was the winning mascot and the school colors will be navy blue and flame orange.

In addition to Brandeis, NISD also will open Vale Middle School, Carnahan Elementary, Forester Elementary, and Scarborough Elementary schools in August. It will be the first time in NISD history that the district will open five new schools in one year. All five schools are funded by school bond 2004.

Even before Brandeis opens, NISD will break ground on the next new high school, the yet-to-be-named "Potranco West area" high school, to be located outside Loop 1604 off of Potranco Road. The school, funded by School Bond 2007, will open in 2010. The groundbreaking is scheduled for 10 a.m. March 26.
