Boerne Chamber of Commerce will hold a Texas primary candidate forum at 6 p.m. Thursday, at Boerne Convention & Community Center, 820 Adler St.

Friday

Boerne Community Theater will offer The Gin Game, a tragicomedy by D. L. Coburn, beginning Friday. What starts as friendly gin rummy between two people disenchanted with their retirement home becomes war as they trade intimate stories and feelings. Performances are scheduled Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Feb. 13, 14, 15 and 16. Thursday performances begin at 7:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday performances at 8 p.m.; and Sunday performances at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $13 to $15 and reservations are recommended. Saturday

Boerne Chocolate Walk is set for 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday in downtown Boerne. Tickets are $10 each for this event, sponsored by Boerne Parks and Recreation, and are on sale at the Boerne Convention and Visitors Bureau, 1407 S. Main. Ticket holders collect chocolates from each of the 32 participating merchants in downtown Boerne. The walk provides an opportunity for visitors and locals to shop and dine in the shops, galleries and restaurants that Boerne has to offer. Call (830) 249-7277 for details.

Leon Springs Farmer’s Market is held every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p. m. at the Leon Springs Dance Hall, 24135 W. Interstate 10, in the parking lot (Boerne Stage Road exit, across from Rudy’s Barbecue). Vendors offer a variety of edibles, from fresh produce to honey, nuts, breads, jams and jellies. The South Texas Blood and Tissue Center will conduct a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the mobile unit that will be located in the parking lot of Beall’s Department Store.

Tuesday

The city of Boerne will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. at City Hall to receive comments on a proposed ordinance to participate in the Texas Enterprise Zone Program. The hearing will include a discussion of tax or other incentives available under Boerne policy and will consider the nomination of Albany Engineered Composites, Inc., as a Texas Enterprise Project.

Feb. 14

The Leon Springs Business Association will have a luncheon meeting at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 14 at the Dominion Country Club. Annalisa Peace, executive director of the Greater Edwards Aquifer Alliance, will speak about ongoing efforts by GEAA to protect Hill Country water resources. GEAA represents 42 member groups, each having impact on water supplies. In her address to LSBA, Peace will discuss the future of water resources, efforts under way to keep springs flowing, involvement and activities with the Texas Legislature, and more. For more information on the Alliance, go to www.aquiferalliance.org  

Feb. 16

Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation and the Animal Defense League are joining together Feb. 16 for Cat & Dog Adoption Day, a special event to find the perfect homes for rescued dogs, cats, kittens and puppies. The public is invited to attend 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Main Plaza in Boerne.

Feb. 19

Kendall Country Republican Women invites the Republican candidates for Kendall County and statewide offices to attend a forum 6:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Feb. 19 at Boerne Middle School North auditorium. Each candidate can set up a table, distribute literature and meet people. The organization will announce each candidate in order of the higher ballot races (statewide or national) to local races. Each candidate will have a few minutes to speak on his or her candidacy. This forum is open to the public to meet the candidates. Keep Texas Beautiful, a statewide nonprofit dedicated to litter prevention, beautification, and waste reduction, is accepting nominations for its 2008 awards through Feb. 19. The Keep Texas Beautiful Awards recognize the efforts made by individuals and groups to enhance their communities and protect the Lone Star State’s environment.

Awards are given in categories honoring individuals, senior citizens, law enforcement officers, civic organizations, government departments, businesses and media outlets. Youth awards are handed out as well, with a nominations deadline in May. Award winners will be recognized at the 41st Annual Keep Texas Beautiful Conference this June in Irving.
