Matt Frost has qualified to compete in the U.S. Fencing Association’s Junior Olympics to be held Friday through Monday in Charlotte, N.C. Qualifying events for the South Texas Division were held last month, when the top three fencers in each category earned the opportunity to participate in the Junior Olympics.

Frost will compete in the Cadet (under age 17) Men’s Epee, an event whose weapon derives from the traditional dueling sword. He has been fencing for three years and trains with coach Paul Pesthy at 15th Touch Fencing in San Antonio.

Matt is the son of Dr. Randall and Francis Frost of Boerne. He is a freshman at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas, where he is president of the freshman class and a member of National Junior Honor Society. Matt also enjoys basketball and cross-country and is considering a career in the biomedical sciences.

Other TMI students who qualified for the national fencing contest are Nikhil Patel and Sonali Patel. Contestants on the sport’s circuit gain points and experience through a year-round schedule of tournaments.
