By Pat Turner Contributing Writer This past week turned out to be fairly productive for Clark’s boys’ basketball team and swimmer Chelsea Miller. The Cougars sealed District 28-5A’s fourth playoff spot with an 81-69 overtime victory over Jay. Clark had to battle from behind most of the game. The Mustangs owned a 14-point lead at one point and carried a 47-43 into the fourth period. However, Clark sophomore Elhad Emerllahu scored 18 of his 30 points in the final stanza to knot the score at 67-67. The Cougars dominated in OT, outscoring Jay, 14-2, thanks largely to the free throw shooting of Chris Blake (16 points), who hit seven of Clark’s 12 free throws during that span. In swimming, Miller, District 27-5A’s Girl Swimmer of the Year, finished fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke. When the University Interscholastic League announced its call-ups for the Class 5A State Swim and Diving Meet, the Clark swimmer learned her 1:06.39 time was good enough to qualify. Clark’s girls’ basketball team ended its season with a 42-39 loss to Jay. The Lady Cougars, who went into the contest with a two-game winning streak, held a 27-26 lead at the end of three periods. But they couldn’t carry the momentum into the final quarter as Jay staged a rally. Clark (4-12, 6-23) was led by Jocelyn Langford’s 13 points. In soccer, the Lady Cougars (3-4-3, 3-0-3) used goals from Sarah Klenke and Lariza Pruneda for a 2-1 win over Warren, before ending the week with a scoreless tie against Del Rio. In boys’ action, Clark (6-2-3) (3-0-3) tied Warren (1-1) and Del Rio (2-2). Clark’s soccer teams played Taft earlier in the week and face Jay Friday.
