John Campbell has been named the athletic coordinator and head football coach at Northside ISD’s new Louis Brandeis High School, which will open in the summer.  Campbell brings with him 12 years experience as a football and track coach. He began work on Feb. 4, according to NISD Superintendent John Folks.

“We are so happy to bring Coach Campbell back to San Antonio and specifically to Northside,” says Folks.  “He brings with him invaluable experience, an excellent track record, and a work ethic that will be a good role model for his students.”  Campbell has resigned his position at James Taylor High School in Katy, Texas, a position he has held since last year.

Prior to that, Campbell was the athletic coordinator and head football coach at Jay High School where he served in a variety of leadership positions from 1994 to April 2007.  He also worked as a football and track coach at Floresville High School for one year.

Campbell was a member of the Rice University football team and a member of the President’s Honor Roll. He earned his bachelor’s degree at Rice and his master’s degree at Texas A&M University in Kingsville.

Campbell is expected to meet with the student athletes from the two schools that will send ninth through 11th-grade student athletes to Brandeis High School.  Those schools are Clark and O’Connor high schools.

According to principal Geri Berger,  Northside’s newest high school will field varsity squads next year even though it will not have a senior class.  Students selected the Broncos as the mascot and navy blue and flame orange as the school colors.
