Thursday The Leon Springs Business association will have a luncheon meeting at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Dominion Country Club. Annalisa Peace, executive director of the Greater Edwards Aquifer Alliance, will speak about ongoing efforts by GEAA to protect Hill Country water resources. GEAA represents 42 member groups, each having impact on water supplies. In her address to LSBA, Peace will discuss the future of water resources, efforts under way to keep springs flowing, involvement and activities with the Texas Legislature, and more. Tuesday Kendall Country Republican Women invites the Republican primary candidates for Kendall County and statewide offices to attend a forum 6:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Tuesday at Boerne Middle School North auditorium. Each candidate can set up a table, distribute literature and meet people. The organization will announce each candidate in order of the higher ballot races (statewide or national) to local races. , (830) 981-9539. Keep Texas Beautiful, a statewide nonprofit dedicated to litter prevention, beautification, and waste reduction, is accepting nominations for its 2008 awards through Tuesday. The Keep Texas Beautiful Awards recognize the efforts made by individuals and groups to enhance their communities and protect the Lone Star State’s environment. Awards are given in categories honoring individuals, senior citizens, law enforcement officers, civic organizations, government departments, businesses and media outlets. Youth awards are handed out as well, with a nominations deadline in May. Award winners will be recognized at the 41st annual Keep Texas Beautiful Conference this June in Irving. Feb. 22 San Antonio Sports and Social Club is now registering teams and individuals for its spring 2008 softball and flag football leagues. The San Antonio Conservation Society is accepting nominations for its 49th biennial Historic Preservation Awards, which honors those individuals and organizations that have attained the highest level of accomplishment in historic preservation and recognizes the elite quality of work performed to maintain structural authenticity. The deadline to submit a nomination is Feb. 22. There is no fee to submit a nomination. Projects must have been completed within the last three years, and previous award recipients may not reapply. Buildings nominated for these prestigious awards can range in size, shape and purpose, but must show respect for the original design intent of the project and for the period to which it is restored. Along with nine awards given to buildings located in Bexar County and the surrounding contiguous area, and one award beyond those counties, the Society hands out the Texas Preservation Hero Awards to individuals who have distinguished themselves in preservation and conservation, and a Lynn Ford Craftsman Award to an artisan in the building arts.
