By Mike Reeder View Sports Writer The Boerne High School varsity soccer teams kicked off the second round of district play as the golf, softball, baseball, track and tennis seasons were all getting in high gear. The Boerne men’s soccer team maintained a share of first place in District 27-4A Friday night with a come-from-behind 2-1 win at New Braunfels Canyon. Alex Rubio and Adrian Resendis each scored for the Hounds. It was the first of several road tests Boerne will face in the second half of league play after hosting the other contenders in the first go-through. Boerne improved to 10-3-2 on the year and 7-0-2 in district. The Boerne women’s soccer team saw its hopes for a victory evaporate late in Friday night’s home game against the Canyon Cougerettes. Instead of coming away with a 1-0 win, the Lady Hounds were forced to settle for a 1-1 tie. The Boerne softball team began defense of its state title last week with a 5-4 loss at home to Burbank, but bounced back by winning three of four pool games at the New Braunfels Canyon Tournament on Friday. Rain forced cancellation of Saturday’s games, but Boerne’s Ashton Bohnert and Chelsea Muskopf were both named to the all-tournament team. The Boerne baseball team wrapped up its scrimmage games last week. The first pitch of the regular season was scheduled to come Monday night at home against Uvalde, after the View had gone to press. The Hounds hit the road today to play in the rugged Marble Falls Tournament, which runs through Saturday. Boerne’s varsity track team is off to a strong start under new Head Track Coach Tim Markgraf, with the men’s team taking first place at Saturday’s Clemens-Steele Invitational. The Hounds won the event with 121 team points to second-place Steele’s 110. Lorin Wilson, the defending state champion in the mile run, replayed 2007 with a first place time of 9:13.02 in the 3,200 meters. Wilson recently signed a track scholarship to the University of Texas at Austin. The Boerne women tied Clemens for fifth place in the team standings with 55 points. The Boerne men’s varsity golf team swept first and second place at their own 12-team Invitational Tournament held Feb. 12 at the Buckhorn in Comfort. The women’s varsity had finished second to Alamo Heights the day before. The Boerne men’s “White” team took first place with a team score of 322, with the “Purple” team just a stroke back in second place. The Lady Greyhounds shot 415 as a team, beating out Fox Tech for second place by two strokes. The Boerne tennis team captured second place at the always tough Whataburger Invitational in Corpus Christi over the weekend. The 16-team tournament field included many of the top-ranked Class 4A and 5A teams in the southern half of Texas. Boerne sister-duo Katie and Christi Mount won the girls’ doubles, Allie Willig finished second in girls’ singles and Curtis Waldrop and Ashley Wehrmeyer placed second in mixed doubles.
