By Nancy Becker Special Contributor You missed an exceptional evening of fun if you did not attend the 10th annual sweetheart dance held at the Bulverde Senior Center on Feb. 16. The evening began with tasty hors d’oeuvres, served with a selection of wines. The delicious dinner of salad, lemon herb chardonnay chicken, cheesy mashed potatoes, vegetable medley, and rolls was a real winner. The dessert, Amaretto Crème Brule, brought rave reviews. All food was catered by the Spice of Life. The food was served by a group from Smithson Valley High School. Dancers enjoyed the music of the Wilburn Brothers Band. During intermissions, drawings were held for the door prizes, generously provided by community businesses and individuals. In addition, one person at each table got to take home one of the lovely centerpieces which were donated by The Bulverde Florist. Special thanks go to the following businesses and individuals for their contributions to the raffle and door prizes. Space does not permit including details of every contribution, but our sincere appreciation to Ace Hardware, Sharon French of Bulverde Florist, Buck & Ozzy’s Last Chance, Canine Comforts, Little Caesar’s Pizza, Cragg’s Do It Best Lumber, H-E-B (Bulverde and Evans Road locations), Honey Creek Gourmet, Perfect Slice Pizza, Sam Roberts Photography, S.T.A.G.E., Texas Wine & Spirits, Tom’s Quick Lube, Tractor Supply, Lisa Wright of Village Hair Design, The Wash Tub and Nancy B. Wiseman. Cash donations were made by Susan Dvorak, I.E.S.I., Aaron Krejci, Luke’s Chevron, Dorothy Remy, Security State Bank and Tierra Properties, LLC. We cannot emphasize enough how very grateful we are for the community support we received for this successful fund-raising event. You made this memorable party possible and we encourage all BSC members to patronize these businesses and personally express your appreciation to the owners and other donors. Barbara Stiff chaired the hard working Young at Heart committee with Hazel Wheeler as co-chair. Other committee members included Phyllis Bates, Nancy Becker, Dianne Burke, Al and Charlene Cordes, Babbie Migl, Lona Pagon, Marge Piper, June “Bug” Ready, Jeni Weeks and Bill Wurzbach. Thanks to all these people for the generous donation of their time, talents and ideas and also to BSC staff members Glenna Croft, Tonie Rogers and Barbara Brigance, who supported the committee. A very special thanks for the beautiful raffle baskets put together and donated by June “Bug” Ready and Annabel Fey of the American Bank of Texas. On Monday, Glenna Croft, manager and director, announced the new officers of the board, including Phillip Gaston, president, Doris Haecker, vice-president, and Howard Goings, treasurer. Cindy Stone and Nelda Martinez will perform the secretarial functions. There is free income tax assistance available and provided by Howard Goings at BSC on Wednesdays in the craft room from 12 to 2 p.m. through April 9. Check the flyer on the front table to see what items you need to bring for your individual session. I wonder what will happen next at BSC? Rumor has it that there will be a “balloon adventure” at Monday’s luncheon. Come join us to see what this is all about and see what else is going on at the Bulverde Senior Center. See you there!!
