A special workshop will be conducted with the City Council and the animal control committee on Feb. 28 to review and discuss a new draft of the animal control ordinance. I’d like to thank all the committee members who have dedicated much time and effort to this endeavor. I encourage residents to attend this workshop.

Council has authorized the expenditure of funds for center stripes on portions of the city roadways. Portions to be striped are areas where increased safety is needed for drivers, such as sharp curves and tops of hills. Staff will present a recommended priority listing next month to council of street areas which need to be striped. I encourage residents to e-mail or call the city engineer if there is a particular area that needs to be looked at for striping. I know that center stripes can be a little intimidating at times, but please be cautious of those who walk along our roadways and let’s not run our pedestrians off the roads.

I’d like to thank Comal ISD and the Johnson family for inviting council, staff and myself to the groundbreaking ceremony for Johnson Ranch Elementary School. This new school will be an additional legacy of the Johnson family to our community.

Inside council chambers is a Hometown Heroes bulletin board which showcases area soldiers who are currently serving in the military, or who have recently served. I would ask the families of those troops currently serving to contact the city secretary to insure current information is posted. If you know of a soldier who is currently serving and not listed, please contact the city secretary so that that he/she can be added.

I encourage residents to correspond with these soldiers who are far from family and home.
