Cambridge Elementary School fourth-grade teacher Stephanie Amsel (second from right) was surprised and excited to see the arrival of the Alamo Heights School Foundation Prize Patrol Thursday morning with a check for $1,350 to fund her poetry project. Alamo Heights School Foundation board member Susan Gragg (far right) had the pleasure of presenting the check to Amsel for the poetry project, which will develop a common curriculum for teaching poetry. The Alamo Heights School Foundation, a separate development organization, spent Valentine’s Day morning awarding more that $20,000 in 2008 Innovative Grants Program prize money for 12 projects to teachers in the Alamo Heights Independent School District. Prize checks ranged from $625 to $4,550. Photo by Mary Candee
