ALAMO HEIGHTS Theft Jan. 20, 8:22 p.m., 5300 block of Broadway: Officers were dispatched to a video store for a theft in progress and found the suspect was fleeing the scene. The vehicle was stopped on Austin Highway, and the driver was ordered out of the truck at gunpoint and handcuffed. After searching the vehicle, the officers found two DVDs from the store, one rented legally and the other stolen, by admission of the driver. The driver was issued a citation for theft and given a criminal trespass warning from the store. Burglary of vehicle Jan. 21, 4:15 p.m., 4800 block of Broadway: A car owner reported that while dining in a local restaurant, someone shattered the back window of her car and stole a black school bag, containing school paperwork. Open container Jan. 22, 12:36 a.m., 5100 block of Broadway: An patrol officer stopped a car after he did a radar check that found the driver was doing 46 mph in a 30 mph zone. After backup arrived, the driver and passenger were checked and found to only have Texas ID cards. The driver was issued a municipal court summons for speeding and no driver’s license or insurance. While doing an inventory of the vehicle, two half-empty and cold cans of beer were found. A charge of possession of an open container was added to the citation. The vehicle was impounded and towed away. Possession of drug paraphernalia Jan. 25, 2:17 p.m., 5400 block of Broadway: After running a registration check of a vehicle traveling northbound on Broadway, it was found the registration had been cancelled last year. After stopping the vehicle and approaching the driver, an officer could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car. After backup was called, the initial officer had the driver exit the vehicle. During a search, two glass pipes with residue, a marijuana separator containing flakes, and rolling papers were found. No useable amounts of pot were found and the driver was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia. Theft of services Jan. 26, 11:32 a.m., 4600 block of Broadway: A waitress and manager of a local restaurant said a man and woman had walked out without paying their tab. One of the suspects had attempted to exit out of the fire exit, then went out the front door. A search of the area did not turn up the suspects. Burglary of vehicle Jan. 26, 11:02 p.m., 100 block of East Fair Oaks: A driver reported the window of his truck had been smashed and his bookbag containing $200 worth of books had been stolen. Theft Jan. 27, 5:53 p.m., 5900 block of Broadway: A business owner reported that one of the trailers he had locked up behind his building was missing and the chain securing it had been cut, and the lock on the other trailer had been tampered with. A hammer was found at the scene and taken into evidence.
