On Feb. 16 Smithson Valleys NJROTC cadets attended the annual military ball at Randolph Air Force Base Officers Club. While some kids rode the bus, others drove themselves or had their parents drive them. The ball lasted from 7 to 11 p.m., which included dinner, guest speaker Dr. Nicola, and lots of dancing time.

While it was a wonderful, happy occasion all around, there were some teary eyes as the seniors made their goodbye speeches, thanking those that had helped them most in however many years they had been in the program. After the speeches and the senior dance, in which the first song is for the seniors, everyone was allowed to hit the dance floor.

Between having cake and caffeine in the form of coffee, tea or a soda, dancing, or getting their picture taken time melted away quickly. And before everyone realized it, the last song was about to play. After the final song had played, students that had ridden the bus to the base, boarded to ride back to the school to their waiting parents. While some students, mostly seniors, went out to a local Denny's to socialize and talk about what was the best about their last military ball.
