Special to the Southside Reporter The Southside Independent School District board of trustees are required to complete yearly training hours. The state requires the board to complete nine to 13 hours and first-year trustees 17 to 21 hours of training. The board members at Southside ISD have completed the following hours of training: • Lisa Salazar, Southside board president - 59.25 • Margie Lopez, Southside board vice president - 26.75 • Craig Knapp, board secretary - 21.75 • Loren Brewer, board member - 30.50 • Raul Martinez, board member - 34 • Rick Quebe, board member - 14.50 • Daniel Rodriguez, board member - 26.75 Salazar was also accepted into the Leadership TASB Class of 2008 program. Several major construction projects are ongoing in Southside ISD: Julius L. Matthey will open its doors for all seventh and eighth grade students at the beginning of the new school year 2008-09. The current Southside Middle School will become a ninth grade academy. Losoya Intermediate will change from a Pre-Kinder-fifth grade campus to a fifth and sixth grade only campus. Southside High School will expand its library and will open its doors during evening hours, in the near future, to the Southside community. Southside High School will also have a brand new state-of-the-art Career and Technology facility
