East Central Independent School District is proud to announce renewal of a scholarship program aimed at developing master teachers in critical shortage areas such as math, science, bilingual, and special education.

The scholarship is available to East Central graduates and current employees seeking to attain teacher certification. The scholarship is being funded through a partnership between the East Central Foundation and UTSA. The scholarship will provide $1,000 in each of the freshmen and sophomore years, and up to $5,500 in each of the junior and senior years. Applications are now being accepted for the 2008-09 school year.

Two scholarships are available for students currently enrolled in the UTSA teacher education program who have attained junior status. In addition, two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to East Central graduates who apply and are accepted by UTSA, and are seeking teacher certification.

Scholarship recipients will be required to teach in the district for a minimum of four years in exchange for the financial support. Deadline for applications in the 2007-08 school year is March 31.

For more information, including the application process, go to the district Web site and click on “Teacher Scholarship”, or you may contact Tripp Presley or Jackie Christensen at 648-7861.
