Primera Iglesia Bautista Fundamental Mexicana recently hosted a special service for its 65-year anniversary. The church is located at 455 Avant Ave.

Founded on Feb. 28, 1943, the church was on the West Side of the city on Durango Boulevard and San Jacinto Street. The church was later sold, and Lanier High School was expanded on the site. Manuel C. Ortiz was the founding pastor.

Ortiz and his wife Belen, were with the church for 33 years. Their son, Rev. Manuel G. Ortiz, was called as pastor when his father died in 1976. The two are the church’s only pastors in its history.

The church today is located at 455 Avant Ave.
For the past 32 years, God has provided faithful servants, Pastor Ortiz and his wife Mrs. Diamantina, to continue the work along with the congregation.

The church has a Sunday school, and children’s and youth ministries. The church is part of El Companerismo Bautista, a group of Hispanic Independent Fundamental Baptist churches. The church hosted the 52nd annual fellowship meeting from Feb. 25 to 27. Delegates attended from throughout the city and country, as well as Central and South America.
