The Trinity University Tigers women’s basketball team has received an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament. The Tigers face McMurray University at the Kimbrell Arena in Abilene, Texas, at 7 p.m. Friday, in the opening round of the Division III Women’s basketball tournament.

A total of 63 teams will compete for the national title, which culminates in the semifinals and finals March 21 to 22 at Hope College in Holland, Mich. The competition began Wednesday. The pairings and sites can be seen at the NCAA Web site, www.ncaa.com.

Trinity (20-6), led by third-year coach Amie Bradley, makes its second NCAA appearance under her leadership. The Tigers last made the tournament in 2006, Bradley’s first year at the Trinity helm. It will mark Trinity’s sixth overall trip (1995, 1996, 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2008) to the tournament. The Tigers captured the national championship in 2003.

The Tigers advanced to last weekend’s Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference semifinal at Conway, Ark., and were edged, 73-70, Saturday by Oglethorpe University. Trinity held a No. 4 ranking in the South Region and was part of the 24 at-large teams selected. Oglethorpe, the conference runner-up, was included in this group. Defending SCAC and national champion DePauw University (a 72-69 winner over Oglethorpe in the SCAC final) was awarded an automatic bid. Thirty-nine conference champions earned the guaranteed slots.
