The Alamo Heights Independent School District Board of Trustees has named Dr. Kevin Brown as the lone finalist to become the new AHISD superintendent. The decision culminated an exhaustive search that began in August 2007 and drew candidates from over 15 states.

“After a thorough search in which we interviewed candidates from across the country, the Alamo Heights ISD Board felt that Dr. Brown clearly exemplified himself as the candidate who is best able to take AHISD to the next level,” said Board President Steve Pritchard.

“The Board is convinced that Brown’s vision for our district and his understanding of its culture and needs will build on what Dr. Christian has accomplished and will move us forward as we meet the challenges of continuing to set a standard of excellence in education,” Pritchard said. “He is an excellent communicator with solid leadership skills that will serve Alamo Heights ISD well.”

Dr. Brown has served as Director of Personnel and Public Information for the past eight years for Alamo Heights ISD and has been a superintendent in training the last several years with Dr. Jerry Christian who is retiring in June after 13 years with the district. In his 17 years of service in public education, Dr. Brown has been involved in all levels of instruction and administration, also serving at Southwest, Round Rock and New Braunfels ISDs.

Born in Abilene, Texas, Brown grew up in Kingsville and San Marcos, receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree, with honors, from the University of Texas at Austin. He received his master’s degree at Texas State University and his doctorate at Texas A&M University.

His wife Page graduated from The University of Texas at Austin and Baylor Law School and is currently a stay-at-home mom raising their two daughters, Hannah, 10, and Molly, 8, who attend Alamo Heights ISD schools and participate in the district’s Spanish Immersion Program.

Dr. Brown serves on the Executive Board of the Texas Association of School Personnel Administrators and has served as an adjunct professor in the College of Education at Texas State University.

Dr. Brown is slated to begin as AHISD’s superintendent June 2, one day after Dr. Jerry Christian’s retirement.
