Take me drunk, I’m home

Feb. 14, 3:20 a.m., 400 block of East Olmos: An officer was dispatched for a car backed up into a building. The driver had a strong alcohol odor on her breath, slurred her words and was unsteady on her feet. The officer determined she was a danger to herself and was cited for public intoxication. A friend of the driver was contacted and took her home, while the officer took pictures of the damage to the building.

Trailer nicked from carport

Jan. 15, 6:50 p.m., 900 block of Morningside: After coming home from work, a couple reported a trailer had been stolen from their carport. The trailer was not secured, but the couple had not given anyone permission to take it. They filed a consent form to press charges if the thief is found.

Thief steals iPods from car

Jan. 16, 1:12 p.m., 800 block of Canterbury: A homeowner reported that when he came out to his car that morning, the lock on the driver’s-side door had been punched out. The owner said two iPods and an ATM card were missing.

Mistaken identity spurs threatening calls

Jan. 23, 1:19 p.m., 1000 block of Morningside: A woman reported she was getting repeated calls on her cell phone from a man threatening to kill her. The man thought the woman he was calling was someone else, and even though the woman pointed out his error, he continued to make threats. The man, who had served jail time for aggravated assault, was told by the woman to cease making the calls. The woman was told not to answer calls made from the number and to document when the calls were made and then contact the THPD.

Graffiti hits house under construction

Jan. 16, 12:06 p.m., 1000 block of Wiltshire: A contractor called to report a house his company had been working on had been spray-painted with several graffiti markings. Photos were taken and entered into evidence.

Rat trap flap

Jan. 28, 4:40 a.m., 5000 block of Broadway: Police responded to a burglar alarm at a business and found someone had thrown a rat trap that contained a piece of cement through the window of a business. Nothing appeared to be missing.

Thief hits while family at play rehearsal

Jan. 28, 9:26 a.m., 6900 block of Broadway: A woman reported that while her daughter was at play practice, someone had stolen a camera, music player and money from a purse of the floor of the auditorium.

Honest pot smoker

Jan. 29, 11:50 p.m., 4700 block of Broadway: After stopping a car on a routine traffic stop, the officer noticed a strong marijuana odor coming from the car. The officer asked why it smelled like that and the driver replied, “To be honest with you, I was just smoking it in my car.” The driver was ordered out of the car while the officer searched it, finding a pipe behind the seat, and bags of weed in the driver’s-side door compartment and the trunk. The driver was taken to the AHPD for processing and the car was impounded. The driver was later taken downtown for booking for possession.

Thief nabs paintings from car

Jan. 31, 7:45 p.m., 4800 block of Broadway: A woman reported her car had been broken into and her backpack, school books, a laptop computer and several paintings were gone. The reporting officer noted the driver’s-side door lock had been punched in. Fingerprints were lifted from the trunk lid, where the paintings were stored.

Bike riders busted for pot pipe

Feb. 3, 1:51 a.m., 200 block of Claywell Drive: An officer observed two men on bicycles without lights or reflectors and stopped them to ask for ID. Since there had been several burglaries in the area, the officer patted down both subjects for weapons. The first man was clean, but when the second man was asked if he had anything the officer should be aware of, he responded that he had a small metal marijuana pipe in his possession. The man was arrested and cuffed, while additional officers were summoned. The man with the pipe received a court citation for possession of drug paraphernalia, photographed, and both men were released.

Attempted break-in at construction site

Feb. 4, 11:46 a.m., 5300 block of Broadway: The manager of a business under construction reported an attempted break-in. The manager said someone had tried to pry open a security door and unscrew the bolts to the door frame to gain entrance.
