March Boerne-area high school seniors can apply for one of Boerne Community Theatre’s two $500 scholarships. Eligibility requirements for the grants include living in the Boerne/Fair Oaks Ranch area or in Comfort and participation in at least one high school drama class or at least one high school or community theater production (cast or crew). Applicants must submit a theatrical resume, including training and experience, and submit a 200-word essay discussing how theater has made a difference in the life of the student. Cibolo Nature Center invites students 13 years old and up to register for a new, 12-hour Camp Counselor Training program. It will be held from noon to 4:30 p.m. on three Saturdays, April 5, 12 and 19 (with April 26 for make-up). Camp Counselor Training will prepare youths and young adults to work as junior or senior counselors at the Nature Center’s Summer Adventure Camps. Summer camps run weekly from June 9 through August 1. Trained camp counselors will be able to choose the summer camp weeks to work. Tuesday Boerne Public Library is offering a computer class at 10 a.m. Students will learn how to create a simple yet fun project using Microsoft Publisher. This software is used to create fliers, calendars and newsletters. You must have some basic Microsoft Office skills in order to take this class. All library computer classes are on a first-come, first-served system. Arrive at 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday to register for the class. Despite the recent rain and cold winds, summer is almost upon us. This means that the Boerne Community Theatre drama camps will be here before you know it! Parents are urged to register their children as soon as possible since slots fill up quickly. There will be three sessions this summer—June 9-22 at the theatre, July 7-20 at the Geneva School, and August 4-17 at the theatre. Each camp can accommodate 35 children; there will be a different production for each session. The cost for the two week camps is $300 per child. Ongoing Keep Boerne Beautiful (KBB) is taking applications from Kendall County residents who wish to be considered for upcoming vacancies on the organization’s board of directors. High school students and youths especially are urged to apply for volunteer positions that require minimal time commitments. KBB is an all-volunteer organization that empowers Boerne residents through education to take responsibility for enhancing their community environment. The Men’s Final Four is seeking nearly 2,000 volunteers to fill more then 3,500 shifts. Volunteer responsibilities include a wide range of tasks, from greeting incoming fans at the airport to helping with NCAA Hoop City and transporting VIPs. Volunteers can choose from shifts that begin March 29 and run through April 8. A minimum of two shifts is required as well as attendance at one orientation session either March 25 or 26. All volunteers will receive an official volunteer uniform and invitation to the Volunteer Appreciation Party on May 22.
