Today

Highland Park Lutheran Church will have its Holy Week and Easter service. Today it will have its “Maunday Thursday: The Promise of Sonship,” at 6:30 p.m. Friday it will have “Righteousness Persecuted,” at 6:30 p.m. Sunday it will have service and Holy Communion, from 7 to 10 a.m. Highland Park Lutheran Church is located at 705 Hammond Ave.

Epworth United Methodist Church, located at 5818 Pecan Valley, will have its “Maundy Thursday” service at 6:30 p.m. There will be special music and Holy Communion. Reverend Glair Thompson will be conducting the services. Call 333-5310.

Spay-Neuter Assistance program will offer low-cost procedures for dogs and cats in front of South Park Mall, 2310 S.W. Military Drive. Pets should be on a leash or in a carrier, and dropped off by 7:30 a.m. Call 673-7722.

Mission Art Guild will be hosting an Easter show at South Park Mall today through Saturday. The show will include several working craftsmen throughout the entire mall, making custom orders. South Park Mall is at 2310 S.W. Military Drive. Call Dale or Judy Best at 333-5899.

Hot Wells Baptist Church will have its “Lord’s Supper Service” at 7 p.m., at Hot Wells Baptist Church, 301 Hot Wells Blvd. Call 534-3338.

Saturday

Our Lady of Czestochowa Shrine will have a blessing of Easter baskets and food (swieconka) on Holy Saturday at noon. Our Lady of Czestochowa Shrine is located 128 Beethoven (off Rigsby Avenue). The Sepaphic Franciscan Sisters are inviting everyone to attend. Bring Easter baskets and food for Easter Sunday.

San Antonio’s Wellness Center will host V.R. Karuparthy, assistant professor of anesthesia at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He will present, “Chronic Pain Management: An Integrative Educational Seminar.” The program is open to the public and health care professionals. It is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at SAWC’s Learning Space, 4833 Fredericksburg Road, just north of the Loop 410 and Fredericksburg Road. Cost of the workshop is $25 per person, or $10 for students. VFW Post 837 and its Ladies and Men’s Auxiliary, Motorcycle Group 837-1 will have its “drink cooler” benefit. The fundraiser includes a garage sale. It will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Table spaces are $5. Bring your own table. There will also be a barbecue plate sale. Plates are $6 each. There will also be live music and door prizes. Radiant Church, at 603 Cosgrove, is sponsoring a neighborhood Easter egg hunt and fun day at 10 a.m. More than 2,000 eggs will be hidden. There will also be free game booths, a children’s identification booth and a moon bounce and slide provided at no charge.  

Sunday

VFW Post 9186, at 650 VFW Blvd., will have a free dance from 4 to 9 p.m. Conjunto Sabinal will provide music. VFW Post 9186 is located across from Mission County Park directly behind the Mission Drive-in Theater.

Hot Wells Baptist Church will have its “SonRise Service” at 7 a.m., at Hot Wells Baptist Church, 301 Hot Wells Blvd. Goerge T. Harrivel, Hot Wells transitional pastor, will have Bible study at 9:30 a.m. There will be a worhsip service at 10:50 a.m. The guest speaker will be Edward Beltran, pastor of Genesis Bible Baptist Church. Beltran’s wife Lorena Beltran will provide special music.

Tuesday

Blessed Sacrament Academy is offering a parenting program called “Precious Minds, New Connections” starting today. The program is free to expectant parents and parents who have a child in their home from birth to age three. Grandparents and other adults helping to raise the child are welcome to attend. The program meets on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, for a total of 10 sessions from today through April 23. The program meets requirements for Child Protective Services, as well as juvenile and adult probation. Blessed Sacrament Academy is located at 1135 Mission Road. TOPS Club (Take Off Pound Sensibly), Chapter No. 1772, meets every Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., at Good News Lutheran Church, 11020 Old Corpus Christi Hwy. American Legion JFK Post 485, located at 431 Kendalia Ave., will have a recognition ceremony March 29, from noon to 2 p.m. The post is recognizing artist Noe Garza. Garza painted a mural at he post. The post is also recognizing volunteers that have helped improve the post. Call 922-8192.

Our Lady of Czestochowa Shrine and the Seraphic Sisters is having its annual Divine Mercy Sunday celebration at Our Lady of Czestochowa Shrine, 138 Beethoven (off Rigsby Avenue) March 30. It begins at 3 p.m. There will be an exposition of the eucharist followed by the chaplet to the divine mercy and procession. Mass will be at 4 p.m. Blessing afterward with the relic of St. Faustina. Several priests will be available for confessions prior to the opening services. The celebration takes place outdoors. Please bring a lawn chair to help with the seating and an umbrella.

Safe Harbor Church will have a “Youth Explosion Concert,” April 5, from noon to 7 p.m., at 3126 S. Flores St. The concert will feature hip-hop, rock and rap music. Food and drink will be served from noon to 3:30 p.m. The concert is to help youths say “no” to gangs, drugs and violence. Call 289-4117.
