Jordan choir to sing at Spurs game Jordan Intermediate School’s Treblemaker Choir has been selected to sing the National Anthem before the April 1 game between the Spurs and Golden State Warriors at the AT&T Center. Music teacher Desire’e Garner submitted an audition tape of the Treblemakers to the Spurs organization, vying with numerous other schools and groups. UC academy receives accreditation First Baptist Academy of Universal City received word from the Association of Christian Schools International that FBA’s entire high school program has been given full accreditation. The school, operating since 1979, added a grade per year since 2004 and will graduate its first senior class this May. Administrator Cissy Stubblefield and academic dean Linn Cagle worked with the school committee, faculty and staff to achieve this high honor. ACSI standards are not easily met. “First Baptist Academy has always set goals to educate children for time and for eternity; we are grateful first of all to God for his guidance and to the committee for awarding us this honor,” Stubblefield. Clemens band does well at UIL meet The Clemens High School Band participated in the University Interscholastic League annual Solo and Ensemble Contest Feb. 23 at Steele High School. Clemens accumulated a total of 118 first division medals. Six soloists and three ensembles qualified to participate in the UIL Invitational State Solo and Ensemble Contest, which will be held May 24 at the University of Texas at Austin. State bound Clemens soloists are: Andrew Bonnema, Chris Hardy, Karey Villalobos, Josh Bearden, Meaghan Kelly and Javier Williams. Ensembles going to Austin are: Trumpet trio consisting of Corey Barker, Michael Gause, and Kevin Rury; percussion consisting of Bearden, Hardy and Villalobos; and percussion consisting of Martin Anderson, Michael Bruins, Ben Tomlin, Andrew Stovar and Casey Solis. Judson students win at Special Olympics Twelve Judson School District students were among those winning medals and ribbons recently in the Texas Special Olympics Winter Games. The winners were: Logan Hoyt, Kirby Middle, first place gold; Kitty Hawk Middle - Jeremy Crockett, fifth place ribbon, Skyler Dodgen, fourth place ribbon, Justin McWilliams, fifth; Metzger Middle - Kenneth Aguilera, third place bronze; Woodlake Hills Middle - Billy Beckingham, fourth place, Matthew Luna, fifth, Skyler Myers, fifth, Jennice Murray, third, Takiesha Ross, third, Tyler Sparks, third. Academy students do well at TAPPS meet High school students from First Baptist Academy in Universal City participated in the TAPPS academic district contest recently in Seguin and qualified for the state meet April 4-5 in Austin. The following will represent FBA: Chris Stolze, second in science (alternate: Richard Cox, sixth); Dora Lucas Brown, second in current events (alternate: Aaron Garza, fifth); Jaci Conroy, third in literary criticism (alternate: Krystal Martinez, fifth); Daniel Rivera, second in mathematics; Richard Cox, third in Mathematics; Daniel Rivera, fourth in calculator and number sense; (alternate: Sharon Wilke, fifth); Nathan Fry, third in solo acting; Sarah Corder, fourth in solo acting; Grace Goddard, fourth in spelling; Margaret Pearso, alternate in social studies and ready writing, fifth); Elena Vasquez, third in Spanish; Fry and John Goddard, sixth in duet acting (state alternates); and FBA yearbook, third Steele students collect food for RACAP Students from five Steele High School campus organizations teamed up to collect 521 pounds of peanut butter and jelly for the Randolph Area Christian Assistance Program. The participating groups were Future Career and Community Leaders of America, Health Occupations Students of America, Peer Assistance and Leadership Students, Distributive Education Clubs of America and the student council. PALS members are required to perform community service as part of their academic criteria. PALS adviser Suzi Mitchell said a recent talk with RACAP Director Jessie Fisher yielded RACAP’s ongoing request for peanut butter and jelly. RACAP also constantly requests flour and sugar, Mitchell added. Academy does well in writing contest Seventh and eighth grade students entered the area writing competition, “Do the Write Thing Challenge” recently. The challenge is a project of the National Campaign to Stop Violence, a coordinated effort of prominent organizations and leaders to work with middle school students and teachers to reduce youth violence. The program is sponsored locally by Bexar County District Attorney Susan Reed. Two students, Adrian Scarff and Hope Goddard from First Baptist Academy in Universal City were chosen as finalists in the area competition and attended a luncheon March 8 where the area winners were announced. A boy and girl will be invited to a state event June 21-23 in Austin and will also be invited to a national recognition weekend in Washington, D.C. July 19-23.
