This week’s party trifecta was all about local philanthropists lending a hand to children.

First out of the gate was the “Celebrate 60” spectacular for St. Luke’s Episcopal School to celebrate the excitement of the school’s 60th anniversary. (And it doesn’t look a day over 50!)

The party featured a huge silent auction and an even bigger live auction with former King Antonio Rick Shaw serving as auctioneer. My BFFs George and Jill Vassar introduced me to party chairs Hamlet and Roxana Newsom, next year’s chairs Robert and Caroline Schupbach and all their best friends including (but not limited to) Bradley and Amy Martin, Claude Koontz, Toby and Emma Calvert, Donna Basse and Michael and Lynne Patterson.

I also spotted George and Diane Shaw, Karl and Ashlee Kinsel, Almeda Hodge, Dana Hawkes and Drew and Linda Stewart among the very generous crowd gathered at Pearl Stable that evening.

And next, the Witte Society hosted their “Spring Jazz in the Treetops” under the stars on the top floor of the H.E.B. Science Treehouse. The only thing cooler than the jazz that night was the company! Among the hip chicks and cats at this haute happenin’ were Witte President/CEO Marise McDermott, Witte Society chairs Jeff and Lisa Rosenbloom, Justin and Julie Peeler, Bob and Janet Alyn and Martha Landsman.

The Witte Society is a “young-at-heart” group of local art-lovers (that’s how they fit in the “children” theme … work with me). The purpose of the organization is to expand the Witte Museum family through special events, programs, parties and receptions.

And finally, the Acorn School, a private, non-profit preschool and kindergarten, held its Fall Family Fun Fest (say that three times fast). This huge event is the annual Acorn School fundraiser and silent auction. It was held at the marvelously posh San Antonio Country Club and featured wine-tasting from different regions around the world. (This is a tough job.)

Susan Hassmann and Vanessa Casey served as party co-chairs for this exclusive event. Among my fellow silent auction bidders and wine tasters were Paul and Anne Krause, Mary Williams, Jack and Christine Orbin, Bob and Sandra Ford, and the parents of five, count ‘em, five, past and present Acorns Richard and Heather Miller.

So, please readers, as you go about your daily lives, don’t forget to think of the children. Lord knows all this wine isn’t going to drink itself.
