By Sarah Stevick Mayor, Bulverde There’s an old saying in the military of “one yellow raincoat, then all yellow raincoats,” which applies to the current water situation in which companies are trying to raise the rates we pay for water. As of last Friday, I was informed that Bexar Met will now be requesting TCEQ approve a water rate increase ranging from 14 to 40 percent. The procedure for this particular water rate increase is a bit different from the other water companies that have requested a rate increase, in that Bexar Met deals directly with TCEQ and not the city of Bulverde because of Bexar Met’s municipal status. Since the city is not directly involved, this situation will not be officially addressed as a council action item. Residents who disagree with this rate increase need to submit their protest to TCEQ. I suggest residents provide a copy of their protest to Bexar Met, as well as to city staff for city files. The clearing of a portion of Lewis Creek is nearly complete. What re-mains to be accomplished is the clean up of the disturbed areas and reseeding. It has taken a few years to get this project planned and funded, and I am pleased that this has been accomplished. On behalf of myself, council and city staff I’d like to extent my sincerest condolences to the family of Gus Wilcox, who passed away last week. Wilcox served as this city’s court prosecutor for several years until his passing. I’d like to also congratulate Margo Williams who passed her floodplain administrator exam. She is now a certified floodplain administrator for the city of Bulverde.
