Southeast Highland Hills Good Neighbor Crime Watch will have a meeting at 7 p.m. They will give tribute to students from nearby schools. The meeting is at Snoga’s Cafeteria. Guests will be introduced, as well as topics of interest discussed.

Friday

Harlandale Baptist Church will have former Dallas Cowboy player Burton Lawless, a member of three Super Bowl championship teams, speak from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Lawless will also speak at the church on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m., and again from 7 to 9 p.m. There will also be a Sunday service beginning at 10:45 a.m. Harlandale Baptist Church is located at 502 E. Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, at 1630 Goliad Road, is having a sausage dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. The meal includes sausage, German potato salad, green beans, sauerkraut, dessert and drink. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children. Call 333-0460. 

Hornsby Theatre Co. presents Lorraine Hansberry’s “A Raisin in the Sun.” The play will be at Antioch Community Center, 314 Erosson, off Walters Street (near the AT&T Center). It starts at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 4 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $20 per person, or $12 per person with groups of seven or more. Senior citizens and students get discounts. South San Antonio Chamber of Commerce will have a reception for its City South Festival at The Blue Star Contemporary Art Center, 116 Blue Star Avenue in the King William District. It is from 6 to 9 p.m. Henry Brun and the Latin Playerz are the evening’s headliners. Tickets are $30. Call 533-1600.

Saturday

American Legion JFK Post 485, located at 431 Kendalia Ave., will have a recognition ceremony, from noon to 2 p.m. The post is recognizing artist Noe Garza. Garza painted a mural at he post. The post is also recognizing volunteers that have helped improve the post. Call 922-8192.

Summerview Apartments is having a blood drive to help the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center. The apartments are located at 4700 Stringfellow St., off of East Southcross Boulevard. The blood drive is from 8 a.m. to noon. All donors will receive refreshments, a free Spurs T-shirt and are eligible to win Spurs tickets. Call Angie Pollock at 532-8775.

Sunday

Our Lady of Czestochowa Shrine and the Seraphic Sisters is having its annual Divine Mercy Sunday celebration at Our Lady of Czestochowa Shrine, 138 Beethoven (off Rigsby Avenue). It begins at 3 p.m. There will be an exposition of the eucharist followed by the chaplet to the divine mercy and procession. Mass will be at 4 p.m. Blessing afterward with the relic of St. Faustina.

VFW Post 9186, at 650 VFW Blvd., will have a free dance from 4 to 9 p.m. VFW Post 9186 is located across from Mission County Park directly behind the Mission Drive-in Theater.

Upcoming

Safe Harbor Church will have a “Youth Explosion Concert,” April 5, from noon to 7 p.m., at 3126 S. Flores St. The concert will feature hip-hop, rock and rap music. Food and drink will be served from noon to 3:30 p.m. The concert is to help youths say “no” to gangs, drugs and violence. Call 289-4117.

South San Community Center rummage sale will be April 5. It will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at South San Community Center, 2031 Quintana Road. Parking spaces for the rummage sale are available for $10 a space. Call 927-1640.

VFW Post 9186 will have a flea market on April 6. It will be across from Mission County Park. A donation of $10 per table is appreciated. Call 337-4728.

Media workshop at UTSA. Learn how to write a press release to promote your business, product or event. The workshop will be April 9, 11:30 to 12:30 p.m., at UTSA Downtown, 501 W Durango Blvd., Room 2.316 in the Durango Building. Journalists who live and work in your community will be on hand to answer any questions you may have and offer advice on getting media coverage. The event is sponsored by the San Antonio Small Business Development Center and San Antonio Association of Black Journalists. Highland Social Club, 2929 South W.W. White Road, will be having a “Casino Night,” April 12. Cost is $15 per person. The doors open at 6 p.m., games are from 7 to 11 p.m. There will be craps, roulette, beat the dealer, blackjack, and poker. Prizes include a Las Vegas trips, plus other prizes. AARP is sponsoring free tax preparation assistance at different locations through April 15. Aides are available 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Mondays at H-E-B Plus, 6816 S. Zarzamora St. and Commander’s House Senior Center, 647 S. Main Ave., Wednesdays at 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Alcohol Chemical Treatment Series (ACTS) has a class meeting every Thursday, from 7 to 8 p.m., and a support group meeting afterward from 8 to 9 p.m. ACTS is a support program to enable people who want to maintain a drug-free lifestyle.
