By Cindy Stone Guest Contributor We are all looking forward to the chili cook-off on Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Bulverde Senior Center. Side dishes to go with the chili will be provided for a small donation of $2. Contestants will prepare their favorite chili recipe and prizes will be awarded. On Monday, we enjoyed a pot luck lunch and lots of conversation. Our after-lunch speaker was Howard Goings, who told us about medical scams to watch for. April 15 is creeping up on us! If you need help with your income tax filing, Howard Goings is at the senior center every Wednesday from 12 to 2 p.m. to assist seniors. There is no charge. In order to receive your stimulus package refund, you must file a return, whether or not you owe taxes. No appointments; come prepared to wait your turn. On Tuesday, the senior center board of directors will hold their annual planning workshop at Timberwood Park at 9 a.m. Senior center members are welcome to attend this brain-storming session. All attendees should bring their own bag lunch and drink. If you don’t know where the Timberwood facility is, maps are available from Glenna. We have some budding artists at the senior center. The art group will meet with Nancy Ulland at the center on April 4 at 9 a.m. to organize the new class. Bring your sketch book! Ideas for the class will be shared. Some ideas include plans to go on field trips, perhaps bring in an artist in to demonstrate, and learn from each other. Nancy tells us that the drawing and painting classes were so successful, they may be offered again in the fall. Walk for Health takes place Monday through Friday at 9 a.m. Walkers meet at the Bulverde City Park. If you are interested in signing up or have questions, please contact Toni Rogers at the Bulverde Senior Center. Plans are being made for the best-ever annual spring craft show on April 19. Inte-rested vendors may call the senior center for information at (830) 438-3111.Craft items made by our seniors will be offered for sale. Food will be served throughout the day, and there will be a bake sale with delicious homemade goodies. Don’t miss it! Make a note on your calendar now. We are especially fortunate to have such wonderful volunteers. Please be sure to log your volunteer time in the blue notebook. Some organizations consider the participation of volunteers as one of their criteria for their support of non-profit organizations, so it is extremely important that volunteer time is logged correctly throughout the year. Photographs taken at the Sweetheart dance are now available. You may look at the pictures in the black book outside the office and choose the ones you’d like to purchase for 35 cents each. “To keep a lamp burning, we have to keep putting oil in it.” — Mother Teresa
