Cibolo Nature Center seeks volunteers for the Mostly Native Plant Sale on Saturday, April 5. Volunteers are needed for security, setting up tables, admissions, parking, hauling, cooking, raffle sales, electronics set-up, preparing materials, vendor liaisons, housekeeping, gift shop, plant loading, tear-down and cleanup. AARP Tax Aide volunteers are available to help tax-paying citizens who need help with their IRS returns. Anyone who pays taxes is eligible for this free service, which takes place every Wednesday and Thursday afternoon from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Boerne Library. Boerne Community Theatre sponsors “Ghost of a Chance,” a comedy by Flip Kobler and Cindy Marcus. A young widow runs into the ghost of her first husband as she tries to vacation with her fiance and his mother. Performances are Thursday through Sunday, and April 10, 11, 12. Thursday performances are at 7:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Tickets cost $13 to $15. Friday

The Boerne art gallery “rexcontemporary” is partnering with the Boerne Public Library to present a series of art lectures to the community. On Friday at the library, painter Gary Bradley of Via Affirmativa, along with fellow artist Joy Moore, will discuss the concept of beauty and how it relates to society. According to its Web site, Via Affirmativa “exists to serve those who are revealing God and His ways through the making of art.”

The lecture begins at 7 p.m., with hors d’oeuvres and wine offered at 6:30 p.m. This program is geared towards adults only.

Saturday

Cibolo Nature Center will sponsor the Mostly Native Plant Sale and Festival 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Kendall County Fairgrounds. Vehicle entrance fee is $5 per car. This is the best place to buy native and adapted plants and garden supplies at a great price. Also, take a look at the bird and butterfly demonstration garden and visit information booths on wildscape, bird box design, xeric watering, guzzlers, compost, pruning and mulch.

Cibolo Nature Center invites students 13 years old and up to register for a new, 12-hour Camp Counselor Training program. It will be held from noon to 4:30 p.m. on three Saturdays, April 5, 12 and 19 (with April 26 for make-up). Camp Counselor Training will prepare youths and young adults to work as junior or senior counselors at the Nature Center’s Summer Adventure Camps. Summer camps run weekly from June 9 through Aug. 1. Trained camp counselors will be able to choose the summer camp weeks to work.

Kendall Elementary School will hold its annual Renaissance Fair from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the campus on Old San Antonio Road. Games and prizes will be offered to children of all ages. Food and game tickets can be purchased for 50 cents each, or buy a wristband for unlimited games and chances to win prizes. A silent auction will be held and major credit cards will be accepted at the auction. The festivities will be in full force regardless of the weather. Kendall Elementary has plenty of indoor space. Wednesday

Hill Country Newcomers Club will welcome spring with a fashion show. The event will be held at The Dominion Country Club and will begin at 11 a.m. Fashions and commentary will be presented by Texas Lady Boutique, San Antonio. Members and their guests are invited to attend. April 10

Hill Country Women’s Connection will be host for an organic gardening workshop 10:30 a.m. to noon on April 10 at Fair Oaks Country Club, 7900 Fair Oaks Parkway. The cost is $13.50 and includes lunch. April 12

Texas AgriLife Extension Service will hold the Kendall County Outdoor Family Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 12 at the Cibolo Nature Center. The fair is free and activities will include a nature walk, mule wagon rides, treasure hunt and art in the park.

April 14

Boerne Public Library’s Food for Thought discussion group on April 14 at noon will talk about Nancy Horan’s “Loving Frank,” the fictionalized account of Frank Lloyd Wright’s scandalous and tragic love affair with Mamah Borthwick. Bring a brown-bag lunch to the discussion; the library will provide complimentary snacks and hot beverages.

April 18

Lama Passang, a master teacher of Tibetan Buddhism, with be speaking at the Thoughtful Living Center on April 18 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The first hour will be an overview of Buddhism and the second hour will be question and answer.
