Burglar hits car at market

Feb. 18, 5:15 p.m., 4800 block of Broadway: While a driver went into Central Market for an item, leaving her car running, the doors unlocked, and the windows down, her purse was stolen from the front seat. The purse contained a wallet, medications and other items.

Speeding stop nets gun, pot, gang member

Feb. 26, 12:02 a.m., 100 block of Burr Road: After observing a car traveling on Broadway at a high rate of speed, the officer tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver refused to stop. Calling for cover, the officer followed the car and saw it slow down and a rear-seat passenger try to bail out holding a gun. The officer stayed with the car and conducted a felony stop, and had all occupants get out and lie down while they were handcuffed. The officer smelled a strong marijuana odor in the car and found a bag of pot, a glass pipe with residue and a handgun. Checking IDs, the officer found one occupant was a known gang member.

Drunk and disorderly at school

Feb. 26, 2:36 p.m., 6900 block of Broadway: An officer was dispatched to Alamo Heights High School for a report of an assault in progress. The office was then notified the suspect was fleeing the scene, and he saw the car in question and initiated a traffic stop. The driver was screaming obscenities at several people in the parking lot, and tried to resist the officer as she was asked to leave her vehicle, and then assaulted the officer. The officer could smell alcohol on the young woman, a minor. After calling for backup and placing the woman in the back of the patrol car, the woman continued to scream and tried to kick out the windows of the police car. She was booked for assaulting an officer and consumption of alcohol by a minor.

Grocery theff

Feb. 26, 6:15 p.m., 4800 block of Broadway: Two women were reported to be stealing a basket of groceries at Central Market, almost running down a security guard in the process. All 54 items were recovered because one of the women threw the basket at an employee when confronted about the theft.

Burglar bags ice chest

Feb. 28, 2:21 p.m., 4800 block of Broadway: A car owner reported her vehicle had its window smashed out and an ice chest had been taken from it.

Public intoxication

Feb. 28, 10:44 p.m., 600 block of Jessamine: Two officers were dispatched on a report of a man staggering down the street with no shirt or shoes, drinking from a beer bottle. The officers contacted and detained the man in their patrol car and could smell alcohol emanating from him. The officers determined the man could be a danger to himself and others and arrested him and detained him for several hours, charging him with public intoxication.

DUI twice

March 1, 9:34 p.m., 6100 block of Broadway: As an officer was escorting a prisoner to a waiting patrol car in the Alamo Heights Police Department parking lot, someone driving a small SUV drove into the lot at a high rate of speed and whipped into two patrol car parking spots at an angle. The driver then got out and, unsteady on her feet, came up to the officer and held out a credit card for which she said was for the prisoner. After admitting to drinking a half a bottle of wine, the woman was given a field sobriety test, which she failed. She was arrested for driving while intoxicated, for the second time, and was transported to the magistrate’s office for booking.

Auto robbed

March 4, 6:16 p.m., 4800 block of Broadway: A student at the University of the Incarnate Word reported that the lock on his car door had been punched out and his stereo and a radar detector had been stolen.

Party out of hand

March 4, 9:35 p.m., 100 block of Elizabeth: After responding to a call for additional police units to respond to a loud party, Officers saw a large group of teenagers fleeing from the scene. They then saw a large SUV stop and try and pick up many of these youths in order to escape the scene, with the teens climbing in the cargo doors and passenger doors. As the vehicle tried to speed off, four of the youths fell out of the car onto the street. Most of the youths were eventually rounded up and remanded to their parents’ custody. The driver was cited for reckless driving.
