Sisters Amber Long and Camilla Basse just opened San Antonio’s newest boutique The Violet Hour. Story and photos by Carole Miller
As spring comes to ‘09, birds are singing, flowers are blooming and the mimosas are flowing freely. And who likes to celebrate spring more than the Military Civilian Club at their annual Fiesta bash? This party always brings the who’s who out of the woodwork to honor all the Fiesta military ambassadors. Joe and Margie Rust On hand for all the pomp and circumstance were El Rey Feo Fernando Reyes and his royal posse including Prime Minister Jorge Gonzalez, Fiesta Teen Queen Meredith Rogers and his Royal Consort Norma Reyes. And, not to be outdone, King Antonio Billy Atwell came to the party and brought all of his best friends such as his Day Aide Barry Roberts and Cavalier Commander Stephen Cavender. Prime Minister Jorge Gonzalez, Fiesta Teen Queen Meredith Rogers, El Rey Feo Fernando Reyes and Royal Consort Norma Reyes Also seen among this high-brow crowd were Civilian Club President Mary Carmack, Military Club President Martha Young, former Wilford Hall head honcho Brig Gen. David Young, San Antonio Conservation Society President Marcie Ince, Francine Rowden, Ray Torres, Jack Guenther, Rey Salinas, Bill and Margaret Kanusik, Marsha Hendler, Sid and Pris Trawick, Bill and Lucy Rascoe and my good friends Chris and Liz Medley, Pre and Patty Ball and Ed Valdespino. And after tiptoeing through the tulips with the military, I joined the Gardenia and Musical Club at Club Giraud for the “A Night in Old San Miguel” scholarship fundraiser. There I met Liz Jauer, Margaret Cusenbery and Betty Rodgers from the board of directors as well as event chairs Nancy Torgerson and Veronica Boldt and their hubbies Vernon “Torgie” Torgerson and Dr. John Boldt. Gardenia Club board members Liz Jauer, Margaret My dance of the flowers ended with cocktails at The Violet Hour, a new hip, vintage couture boutique located in Sunset Ridge. Mark my words; this little jewel of a boutique is destined to become a haven for 09 clothing mavens. Business partners and sisters Camilla Basse and Amber Long donated 25 percent of sales that evening and the entire opening week to Sunshine Cottage and Southwest School of Art and Craft. Military Club President Martha Young and Brig. Gen. David Young Among the well-dressed crowd gathered for the exclusive opening night party were Mills Buchek, Elizabeth Allen, Mollie Calvert, Camille Malek, Hannah West, Claire Hennessey, Kim Winton and Joy Fuhrmann. Talk about a week of flower power! Cavalier Commander Stephen Cavender and King Antonio Billy Atwell Gardenia party chairs Nancy Torgerson and Veronica Boldt and their hubbies Vernon ''Torgie'' Torgerson and Dr. John Boldt.
