Eccleston also had a wide margin in early voting, with 324 votes compared to Corbin’s 142. “I am really pleased with the number of voters who turned out for this election,” she said. “You don’t often see this in a runoff. I will continue on the same course of action up to the November election. I want to thank the voters for their support.” Eccleston received 1,056 votes to Corbin’s 853 in the March 4 primary. A third candidate, Eddie Poindexter, came in third with 787 total votes during the Republican primary. Eccleston will go up against Democrat Larry Horton in the Nov. 6 general election. Horton offered his congratulations to Eccleston for her victory in the runoff and acknowledged Corbin and Poindexter’s campaigns. “It is people like these who make our country great and the process work”. Mr. Horton continued “I look toward a long and difficult campaign”. Incumbent County Com-missioner Jack Dawson is seeking re-election. Dawson was first elected in 1996 and is completing his third term as county commissioner precinct 1. Precinct 1 runs west from Loop 337 to Spring Branch Road. The southern boundary is State Hwy. 46. |
