Pierce Caldwell
Incarnate Word’s sophomore guard Pierce Caldwell has taken another step up the honors ladder as he has been named honorable mention All-America by d2basketball.com.

Caldwell is the first basketball player from a San Antonio university to earn All-American honors since Incarnate Word moved to the NCAA and Division II back in the 1999-2000 school year.

Earlier this spring, the Marshall High School product was named Heartland Conference player of the year after finishing first or second in four league statistical categories.

The next step was his selection to the Daktronics All-South Region second team. This honor was for players from three conferences with 34 schools in six states.

Now comes his All-American designation. The d2basketball.com honor list, in addition to Caldwell, includes three other players from Texas schools. Caldwell is the only Heartland representative.

He led the Cardinals in scoring and established two school records for three-point field goals made in a season and a career. Over the course of the season, while leading UIW in 10 categories, he had double-figure points in 26 of his 28 games with 20 or more 11 times. This season he had personal career highs in points, rebounds and assists.
