Alamo Heights Foundation major donors Bill Maloy and Sen. Jeff Wentworth By Carole Miller
The social seen this week featured all the colors of the rainbow. I went from feeling pretty in pink with the Zetas, to feelin’ the Alamo Heights blue and gold spirit, to celebrating in Technicolor with the parents from San Antonio Academy.
Bob Ford, Mitch Meyer, Jimi Ellis and Tony Canty laissez les bon temps rouler! My colorful week began at the 18th annual Zeta Tau Alpha Crown Affair benefiting the Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation, national co-sponsor of the Survivor Recognition Program at the Race for the Cure. Zeta’s National philanthropy is breast cancer education and awareness. Hometown gal Heloise was the hilariously entertaining special guest speaker and Leslie Bohl Jones, the host of ”San Antonio Living” and morning anchor for WOAI, served as mistress of ceremonies. (And she sat at my table. How cool is that?) Zeta Alumni President Debbie Christie, Betty Coe Manuel, party co-chairs Erin Graham and Luci Bell with Amy McLin at the Zeta Crown Affair Heather Wolff, whose tireless work and dedication helped bring the Race for the Cure to San Antonio, was named honorary chairman. My new pals Erin Graham and Luci Bell served as chairmen of the event and introduced me to alumni president Debbie Christie, Amy McLin, Betty Coe Manuel and Laura Moreno. I spotted many familiar faces looking pretty in pink that afternoon, too, including Sara Kliewer, Katie Kolm, Carol O’Brien, Bonnie Sue Jacobs, Ginger Lord, Pam Harter, Mary Ann Hollingshead, Becky DeWees, Beth Douglass, Kari Long, Camille Boyd, Ashton and Shannon Craycraft and Caroline Meador. My next stop on the color spectrum was blue and gold when the Alamo Heights Foundation threw a really big party for all its really big donors at the really big Terrell Hills home of Greg and LeeAnn King. Nationally-syndicated columnist Heloise served as guest speaker and WOAI anchor Leslie Bohl-Jones was mistress of ceremonies at the Zeta Crown Affair. While at the party, I got to chat with my favorite state senator, Jeff Wentworth, new Alamo Heights Independent School District Superintendent Kevin Brown, outgoing AHISD Superintendent Jerry Christian, young Assistant Superintendent Mary Zeigler, Alamo Heights Junior School Principal Stephanie Kershner and Woodridge Elementary School Principal Cordell Jones. I met Bill Maloy, Steve Rubin, Nick and Genny Campbell, Pam Cohen, Paige Brown, Frank Alfaro and Jennifer Faulkner and saw my friends Brian and Melinda Biggs, Fae Hardy, Tom and Sally Guy, Tracy West, Gordon and Martha Smith, Randy and Carol Aldridge and loyal reader Phyllis Viola. And as I slid down my metaphorical rainbow to the final party of the week, I landed with the krazy krewe of parents from San Antonio Academy at the 12th annual Spring Thing Mardi Gras. Bob Ford, Mitch Meyer, Jimi Ellis and Tony Canty laissez les bon temps rouler! This colorful celebration was put on by Chairmen George and Lisa Bodden and co-chairs Russell and Paige Sugg at Radius Café. It featured amazing live and silent auctions, food from some of San Antonio’s finest chefs and a guest list full of the rich and famous. My favorite local weather guy Mike Osterhage served as emcee for the evening where I saw other local big shots like Bart and Dore Koontz, George and Diane Shaw, Mark and Robin Howard, Tripp and Chaney Stuart, Eric and Missy Rindler, Mitch and Susan Meyer, Tony Canty, Mark and Jennifer McLiney, Amy and Hans White, Bob and Sandra Ford, Stephanie and Tim Brown, John and Laura Zachry, Paul Carter and Jimi and Cindy Ellis. Pam Cohen, new Alamo Heights Independent School District Superintendent Kevin Brown, Frank Alfaro, Jennifer Faulkner, and Woodridge Principal Cordell Jones Laissez les bon temps rouler!
