Smithson Valley High senior Julie Amthor has been selected as one of three students from South Texas to represent the San Antonio branch of the Dallas Federal Reserve Bank in its 18th Annual Essay Contest on May 1 in Dallas.  This year’s theme was “Economics in Motion Pictures.”  Her winning essay was an economic-oriented critique of the movie, “Matchstick Men.”

Amthor’s essay is now in competition with 11 other students representing the Dallas, Houston, El Paso, and San Antonio branches. 

All 12 competitors will be awarded scholarships ranging up to $1,000.
