Special to the View A May 10 benefit golf tournament has been scheduled for one of the Kendall County sheriff’s deputies who has been struck by a physical and personal challenge. It will be held at the Buckhorn Golf Course in Comfort. Investigator Michael Kunz, who was the recent recipient of the “Deputy of the Year” award for 2007, has been diagnosed with brain cancer. Kunz underwent surgery where two tumors were removed and he is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatments to battle a tumor that was not able to be removed. Immediately after being released from the hospital Kunz was awakened in the middle of the night to the smell of smoke. His house was engulfed in fire and was a total loss, even though Kunz and his family were able to escape with relatively minor injuries. His friends and co-workers have organized this golf tournament as a means to help Kunz and his family recover from the financial burdens of his illness and loss of their home. “It is heartwarming to see the outpouring of compassion that the community has shown toward Mike,” said Kendall County Sheriff Roger Duncan. “Anyone wishing to purchase raffle tickets, participate in the golf tournament or make a donation should contact the Sheriff’s Office at 249-9721”.
