Major issues:

Hiring and keeping top teachers: Since teachers are the backbone of education, this one is obvious. We lost 20 teachers last year at the high school alone. We should do exit interviews to find out why and develop a more user-friendly process by which teachers can give input to the operations of the district.

Planning for growth: Our TEA report card has dropped us to the lowest level in years (acceptable) because we have not done a good job of teaching economically disadvantaged students. We need a specific plan to improve our teaching of this growing group.

Communication: We need to do a better job of listening to parents, teachers and our community in general about what our citizens want to see in the school system and the direction we are taking. This means doing a better job of informing the public about matters of the district and creating a forum for public input.

Personal statement:

“I believe I am the most qualified because I have lived and worked in Boerne for the past 19 years and have been very involved in many aspects of the community: schools, the justice system, businesses, church and civic organizations. I have a general practice law firm and am familiar with many aspects of the law. I served on the long-term planning committee of BISD prior to the previous bond election, and on other school committees as well. I hear a lot of input from lots of people who would like to have a say in how their children are educated. Everyone’s opinion is important, and I want to listen to those opinions and incorporate them into my service on the board.”
